Voltage on sending unit help!

Bout to go crazy. I have voltage comming from my sending units, water and oil. I touch them with a test light and it lights up dim, but only with headlights on. It also makes my turn signal indicators in the dash light up. Oil guage goes to the far right when key is turned on but it reads normal when truck is running. I have unplugged the cluster to rule out a bad guage. Any guesses?

Sounds like a bad ground somewhere to me

Yes ground issue.. check both grounds on radiator support for front lights and the body to battery also the engine to body one.

Thanks guys, i was thinking its a ground problem. I just re installed the front clip after the 5.3-4l60 swap, the grounds are all hooked up bit i wil go back and clean off all the areas and make sure its making good contact

Many people when they start changing stuff on these old trucks forget to replace some grounds. I have seen this many times and it can cause electrical problems.

Originally the cab was grounded to the back of the engines, these are often left off when engine swaps are done.

I was having problems with my '67 swb steppers tail-lights and finally realized I had not grounded the bed to the frame.

I am normally on the 67-72 side of the board and many of the guys that know a lot more than me say make sure everything has good grounds, don't rely on rusty bolts to do the grounding.

Just a few thoughts.
