67-72 Tach conversion

I purchased a tach conversion kit for my 71 Cheyenne BB 454 w/a Mallory HEI distributor, plugged in the wiring as per instructions & also purchased a tach filter as suggested by manufacturer but, it does not work at all there is a warning at the top of the instructions that says you may have to purchase a separate tach adapter to make the tach work with some aftermarket HEI dist such as Mallory, MSD etc. Does anyone know what tach adapter there are referring to?
