Frame Issue
Trying to find out the best way to go here. Well beyond my expertise, to say the least... I figured the gusset fix could wait, since the connection to the frame rail still seemed solid. But as I started knocking away some loose stuff on the inside, I noticed the daylight coming through. The rest of the frame is good, but with the gusset connection and leaf spring mount both being involved, it seems like this damage is in a pretty bad spot. Would certainly appreciate any advice and/or insight you guys may be able to offer...

I'd have to think that the best course of action might be to find a good frame and not invest any effort into that one. It looks like the frame I saw that was on a truck that the farmer hauled fertilizer in most of the time and the fertilizer at the frame up.
If you were thinking S-10 swap that would be a more than honest reason for an S-10 frame swap.

X2. Start with a good foundation. Frames are out there and it gives you the perfect excuse to do a frame off. I'm not a big fan of the S swaps.
