18" wheel backspacing (need help)

I have decided to go with 18" wheels and could really use some help with my backspacing. Im having them made and there is no room for error. Once they are made I own them. Im going 18x8 front and 18x10 rear. The truck has a 4/6 drop.

Re: 18" wheel backspacing (need help)

It means 'To the top'

As new threads come along, yours gets pushed to the bottom of the list and it's less likely it will be seen. Tom 'Bumped' your thread up to the top so people like me could find it.

First -- Welcome to the board from TN!

The best thing I can suggest would be to pick up a Percy's Wheelrite.
http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ph...FUWo4AodrjgAVw

This is a tool that will allow you to see not only the wheel size, the backspacing, etc. But the tire size too. It has a little flexible wire across the top of you so you can similate your tires. Put this tool on the lugs like it were a wheel and you can see with / without the wheels turned if you'll have rubbing situations. It's $75 bucks WELL spent if you are looking into custom offset wheels. I have one of these tools, .. if you'll send it back to me I will be happy to let you borrow it.

Re: 18" wheel backspacing (need help)

Thank you for welcoming me. I'm still learning the page so I'm not so sure what some of the abbreviations stand for yet. I also would love to share pics of my build but I'm having trouble figuring out how to upload my pics to the page. I have a new apple computer and I'm still in a learning curve. I appreciate the offer to let me borrow your backspacing tool but I would be afraid to borrow it and something bad happen to it. I don't mind buying one I didn't realize they were that inexpensive.

Re: 18" wheel backspacing (need help)

In the box at the lower part of the page where you type your post, you will see a 'Go Advanced' button. You want to click there.

Once the 'Advanced' section opens you will see a 'Manage Attachments' option. Click there then browse to the location of your pictures. Select, then Upload.

You want to be a little careful about the size of your pictures. Anything really big is going to give you an error about a 'token size' .. if you get the error it just means your pics are too big.

The Admins on the site have a limit to the size of the pictures, just for backup and recovery options, file and picture storage, thinks like that. I'm an IT / Network Administrator so I know all too well.

What year is your truck? Do you know the earlier trucks have a more narrow rear end housing in them? The late 70-72 rear end housing is wider. (So backspacing is impacted in a big way.. kinda why I'm asking)

Re: 18" wheel backspacing (need help)

Here ya go.....got 18's on mine.

8" up front with 4" bs & 255/50 tire.
9.5" out back with 4.5" bs & 275/55 tire.
I'm probably a tad lower than 4/6 and no rubbing.

Also.....you don't mention what year truck you have.....earlier rearends are a bit narrower. Can't remember the exact breakdown on what years at the moment, but someone will chime in or do a quick search.

Re: 18" wheel backspacing (need help)

You have a 1970 as i do also. Some of these came with a 55.5" width rear end and some 57". Just measure from backing plate underneath to the other backing plate on the other side to find out.

Re: 18" wheel backspacing (need help)

You will definitely want to know before you get your wheels. My 70 is the late rear end but if yours was built in late 69 or early 70 it could have the early housing.

^^ as Mr. Purple posted above.
