Battery is dead after sitting for a while...

So I did a search on this and it told me to do the following... I unhooked negative cable and hooked up 12 volt test light between it and negative cable, and then I went to fuse block and took out all fuses and any other wire hooked to fuse block, key is off and test light is still on indicating something is still drawing on battery........where to I go from here???

I would remove the battery and take it to autozone or another parts store that can test it. I bet the battery is toast

So I am right that test light should not be on with everything in fuse block unhooked???? I'm 1.5 hours away from a auto parts store so I will just swap the battery out and see it test light is off between neg cable and post, that should prove battery is toast.

che k the voltage regulator it doesn't run through the fuse box and I've seen them get stuck and create a draw.

I'll post some pictures of alternator and regulator as previous owner looks like he put on a internal regulated alternator but old regulator looks to be still hooked up.

Re: Battery is dead after sitting for a while...

Ok hooked up another battery and test light comes on between neg cable and neg post so it's not the battery. I unhooked the two wires on top of alternator and light goes off, so as far as I can tell its the regulator on the rad support that's stuck and creating a draw. Does this make sense?....or is the alternator?....

I don't know how your test light works, but with the one they hook it to at autozone, it seems like it takes about 20 minutes to complete the test, so it could be testing more than your test light is testing. Either way, it sounds like you may need a voltage regulator or some other part, so it might be worth checking to see if they have everything in stock, and then have them test the battery and if that's not the issue, you can pay for the part you need. Of course, I'm assuming you have an additional vehicle you can drive

Thanks, Ill have to get a voltage regulator, and see if that is it the problem as when I unhooked the alternator there was no more current drawing and test light went out.
