Question Taking front side emblem off to wax

Does anybody know how to take off the front side emblem of a 77 Chevrolet Pick Up to wax the underneath? At first glance it looks real tough to get all the back nuts off to release the emblem. In my case it is "Scottsdale 10". Does the inner fender have to come off to get in the back? Thanks in advance;Larry

Only way is to remove the fender itself

Only way to safely remove them is to remove the fender itself.

You can also take a piece of wood, place it above the emblem and whack it with a hammer - if you don't intend to keep the emblem or reinstall them.

In any case, removing them to clean the wax from underneath would be a huge deal.

I have taken a putty knife and chopped off the pegs and re-installed the emblems with 2 way tape but the vehicle was always being repainted.

You can usually detail the emblem with a soft toothbrush and Q tips
As far as I know you have to pull the fender to get to the backside and remove the nuts.
Can certainly be done but will take 2 guys and an afternoon
I seem to remember you had the black all original 77 Sport...that is a very rare truck today with original paint...be careful!

Yes - I know what you mean but I don't know if they are currently available.

They are called barrel clips and are available at body shop supply stores...most body shops have a supply. There are a couple of differnt sizes and you usually need to enlarge the mount hole slightly...so best done before painting...or at least touch up the hole so that it does not rust

80 Sport has done it before...lol. I always installed the emblems with barrel clips anytime I put new fenders on. The barrel clips will hold it on, but a lot of times you just can't get it up tight to the fender that way.

Looks like it, I got some at the local NAPA cheap. I had an emblem that had some on it that they were able to match up. My truck had no fender emblems on it when I first got it and I wasn't spending all day pulling the front clip to get a couple emblems on there.

Re: Taking front side emblem off to wax

Just thinkin' - I have one fender emblem missing and one very faded. I already have one new Silverado 20 emblem I bought long ago and never installed. I am considering getting a cheap paint job and don't want to pull the fenders off to put the emblems on.

Looking at the holes, couldn't ribbed plastic wall anchors of the correct size be used to wedge the pins on the emblems in place? Or how about a dab of quick setting epoxy in the holes, with the emblems temporarily held in place by painter's tape.

Keith - didn't you just fill in the holes on your red truck and paint over that area? How did you fill the holes - just bondo?

Re: Taking front side emblem off to wax

Thanks for all the nice and informative responses. In my case I will
not attempt the removal of the emblem. It is just too risky for the possible damage. It has perfect(fender) "factory" alignment now. The big problem is to
try to detail the emblem(and fender body underneath) which is a very hard emblem to detail. (Lots of
small holes)IMHO Thanks again; Larry
