best carb setup for 250 six

what would be the best daily driver setup for a dual carb . i have run dual carb rochester i barrels , there a little temperamental . i dont want a single carb , i was looking at dual 97's but those a expensive little buggers ... i seen were langdons says to run dual webbers . i just want a little feed back on what yall are running and how they run .. the motor will have headers and a heated intake probably a offy . no plans to change cam yet but that might change . original dist. with petronix breakerless . i want to stick to old school looks , no hei's no 4 barrles , no tbi . thanks ,, here is a couple of pics of my new baby on the back of my wrecker my plans are a slight static drop ,wide whites , lake pipes , t-5 or 200r4 tranny ,and powder blue paint with white scallops or white with red scallops . everyday driver and still pull my fishing boat ....

I have been working closely with Mr. Langdon on my rebuilt 230 useing a single Weber 32/36 DGEV with HEI ignition, stock rebuilt engine, stock exhaust, thrush muffler...I added Delco 12SI and Langdon GM HEI first.

Thread here starting about post 123. Did some door work in there too and the carb tuneing with Mr. Langdons input and a new jet picks back up around post 168 and on to the end of the thread. Emails back and forth with Mr. Langdon along with performance assessments start about post 194...sorry, got busy with springs and motormounts and fan belt all the while I was tweakin and drivein the carb.

So far, I am very happy with the performance and reliability of the 32/36 carb on this factory stock motor. Its smoother than the single rochester, not really any more difficult to dial in, ( In any event, the Weber DGEV 32/36 dosn't piss gasoline all over the manifolds with every hot shutdown), quite responsive to little changes and I think its gonna be a keeper. If yer willing to spend some time with the set up you can get better mileage and performance in the driving ranges and on the highway. I think its very worth the mileage, improved highway performance, smooth response and as you say, less complicated than trying to dial in a pair of carbs.

I just ordered the Langdon HEI for my 235. What kind of difference did you see from that?

My next move will be to got the Weber carb you mention, but I'm debating between electric or hand choke. Pros? Cons?

Manual choke is best IMO.
Works correctly for decades. Can adjust close by ear or exact w/ wideband O2. Best to minimize choke usage to conserve valuable cylinder wall oil film.

The immediate switch to HEI - started conservative at 10 advance, tom recommends 18, and useing the old leaky but functional Rochester B carb was instant start cold, near instant start hot, exceptionally smooth idle and smoother power build throughout the range from idle to WOT.

Electric choke is my choice, I don't have to keep slappin the choke button just to reassure myself its off after its warmed up, I never have to remember to set it when I'm in a hurry, can adjust it for a moderate idle after kicking the pedal down from initial fast idle...pretty much nifty for lazy.

Cons, bit of tweeking up front, possible difference between summer and winter settings if you have extreme winters, could fail leaving ya w/no choke...some folks think electric choke is gay, or at least not cool - I've long since ceased ta care what folks think.

Actually, the echoke on the DGEV is the easiest adjustment. But, the set up and jetting are not anywhere near as bad as I thought and certaintly easier than rebuilding a carb on the bench.

Cool. Thanks for the info. As soon as I get a couple more bucks, I'll get the carb setup. IDK how long it'll take for the HEI to get here, but I'm certainly lokking forward to it.

Mr Langdon is pretty quick. He calls for payment info and to field install questions. I've gotton a number of Sunday calls to talk over tuneing my DGEV. Shipping has been pretty quick.

The DGEv is not gonna rock ya for power on the bottom but as you see in my John Lee Jr thread I have smoother power and performance in the driving range and passing ability now on the stock gearing. If ya are willing to work w/ Langdon and do what he suggests the project can be very satisfying. I like my DGEV better w/every drive.
