Re: I want to put overdrive in 72 Blazer 4x4, which tranny?
This is a confusing thread. I don't see any reason to run a 4L60e unless you want to.
The 700-4L60 were only used for 10 years and the 4L60e have been used for the last 20 so the 4L60e's are plentiful. If using a 4L60 there is no need for a computer. Even the TCC can be controlled hydraulically with no wiring. The TV cable is easy enough to deal with if you are using GM fuel injection. The geometry, brackets, and cables are easy to get. Blue Thunder, I think the issue with using the 4L60e in your case is the TPI was not offered with the electric controlled transmission. I would think it would require software changes in the computer. Also the 4L60e has to have a VSS for shifting. From my reading, that means an extra adapter between the transfer case and transmission. I have a 4L60 mated to a '95 LT1 that I'm planning to use in my Suburban. I ditched the optispark and converted the intake to distributor. I'll be using a L98 computer. edit: to comment on GuyO's statement about "not being worth it", overdrive also makes the engine last longer and should make it quieter in the cabin. It's worth it to me.
