5.75 backspacing?

HEy guys, found these wheels on summit. I love the look of them, but i dont think they will work with that much backspacing. Any thoughts?

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

4.75" BS on the narrow rear housing is about all you can get under a stepper with an 18x9" wheel. If you stepped up to a 20, or 22 even you can run 5" BS on a 9in wheel with 265/40 tires. Also running 18x9, you're going to have to either roll the outer wheel lips on the fenders or do some minor trimming.

1" spacers either side .. then maybe, but just the wheels I'm going to say no, they won't work.

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=414742

^^ This truck is a 9" wheel with 5" BS on the rear. 8.5" wheel up front with 5.25" BS. I think he has 22x9 on the rear and 20x8.5's up front .. I can't recall but it will say in the build. He had to do some minor trimming on the outer wheel lips to get it to work but I think it looks awesome.

Edit: -- just an FYI with the 18" setup, what I mean is the tire would have more 'sidewall bulge' than say a 20 or 22" setup. When you go into a corner the tire would have more flex in it and more likely to rub. As low as your truck is / will be I don't think the 18x9" wheel would be a good choice for you even with 1" spacers. I ran a 20x8.5 with 4.75" BS on my stepper with 255/45/20 in the rear and it was pretty tight. It had some breathing room.. but .

I have seen some steppers with 10" wheels on the rear but the wheel itself is wider than the tread / section width of the tire. Nothing wrong with that I guess but just not my personal preference.

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

Do you know for sure you have the original rear axle housing? 67-68 is different than 70 on up.

Have you measured? This will be a major factor for you on the rear backspacing. I can tell you how to find out if you haven't checked / not sure no worries. We'll get it figured out.

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

How can you tell on the housing? Mine is about 57 inches from the outside of the flange to the outside of the other. I would measure to the bed but the can and bed are off the frame right now

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

Measure from the inside of one backing plate to the other.. prob 55.5"

Sounds like the early housing.

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

yeah i would say 55.5. All of the brackets for the disc brakes bolt to the back so it was difficult to measure

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

9" wheel with 5" bs will be very tight. Remember that tire sidewall bulge if you do 18s. There's a picture of my BB truck in my build (my signature below). That's a 20x8.5 with 4.75" BS. 255/45 tire.

Just for reference.. not saying that's the only option ..

I could get about the first knuckle of my finger between the outer edge of the tire and the outer fender lip. If you trimmed it.. you might be OK. Have you seen Raul's truck?

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

Wide housing or narrow? 5.5" drop?

Just to clarify, to get it to tuck under the fender lip I don't see much more than a 9" wheel with 5" BS. All trucks are different, there may be people out there that have it working.. if so, please post a picture. I'd be interested to see how you did it.

Not at all challenging anyone just saying.. this is why I sold my step side bed.

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

Wow, .. OK. Didn't know they came with a Dana 44.

Is the axle maybe more narrow than a 67 12 bolt?

255 tire is 10.03 wide so it would work no doubt. I bet its a little snug? . Post up a picture man. I want to see it.

Re: 5.75 backspacing?

I think backspace numbers, and wheel widths,... being thrown around all depend on how you want the truck to look.
Or how low your truck is.
Or are you relying on your suspension to keep the side wall off the fender?
Or if you truely want the tire to completely clear if you lose air in your air bag.

WAY to many veribles with all the different trucks and rearend widths to just thow out numbers.

CC69Rat does an EXCELLENT job of trying to bring these concerns to light in his posts about backspacing.
But everyone's opinion on what looks good to them, on their own truck,... can vary greatly!

A tape measure and a straight edge is the best way to determine what you want on your truck.
