Question SBC starter question.

Hey fellas, I have been working on my 1986 K5 and just put a new 350 in it. The K5 is a factory SM465. I put a new clutch and slave cylinder in it also. The question is.....I put a new starter in it also and it just spins. It does NOT engage the flywheel(new ring gear). Are there differences in length of the cone of the starter?? I have a few extra starters from my the old days when I had a collection of 70-73 Z28 cars(manual trannys). Before I take this starter out is there a difference between Auto and Manual starters???

Thanks in advance fellas,
