New Guy - Looking 4 some Power Brake Guidance

Hello All,

I recently bought a 67 c10 and have been doing some serious crash course research on the site and am looking to do a power brake conversion. I just got the booster and rod assembly needed for the conversion and after some thorough research I feel good about the upcoming switch from manual to power brakes.

MY Only Question Is: where have those of you that have done this very common conversion hooked up your vacuum line???

I guess I am going to do a search looking for some pics showing where it would go, but I figured i'd go ahead and shoot a post out in the hopes that some of ya might send me some helpful responses.

my mechanical skills are not that high so please excuse this question if it seems foolish to you. I hope to do as much work on the truck myself that I can...this seems relatively easy enough so I hope to complete it myself.

I have the parts coming in for a power steering upgrade as well..so hopefully when the time comes I can get some help in that area too if its needed.

I have a 350 in the truck if that helps in diagnosing where the vacuum line should go. I guess some pics would be great if anyone has any.

ok. thanks for the reply - like I said, my mechanical knowledge is definitely on the low side, but i'm looking forward to expanding my know how with the new old truck!

I have an edelbrock carb (not sure which model or series) and based on some of the stuff I've been reading while looking for a solution, they apparently have a power brake port. not sure if mine does or not but will definitely check tomorrow.

would be nice if this was a "problem solved" discovery.

Two pointers for you. One: Make sure you have a check valve on the vacuum line. Two: Don't tie the vacuum line in with any other vacuum accessories.

For example....don't TEE off the same port as your trans, PCV or anything. Try to go directly off the intake or the non-ported spot on the back of the carb.

the more I read about this conversion, the more I hear of people replacing the entire pedal rod assembly. well...I purchased a Brake Pedal Rod Extension Kit from summit racing (SUM-760125) with the hopes of not having to replace anything else. I was thinking that this would allow me to just use the trucks current brake pedal set up.

does anyone know if this should work or am I going to have to find a whole new brake pedal assembly?

I haven't posted pics before, but will attempt to include a pic of the extension rod with this post

That should work fine.

Keep in mind that your pedal may sit a bit lower even with the rod adjusted out all the way. I had to lengthen mine to get the pedal to sit even with the clutch.

Bottom center on the back of all Edelbrock carbs is a port for power brakes.

You will just need an NPT to hose barb fitting.

well, this seems to be an easy upgrade, only issue I have is that the booster kit that I ordered from summit (its a TUFFSTUFF kit) does not line up and directly bolt in like I was told it would. if I were to drill into the firewall, the new bolt location would have one bolt coming into the cab right where the spring on the brake pedal is and one of them would have to bolt into the steering shaft bracket under the hood. not sure I want to do that.

is there any kit out there that anyone knows of that would be a pretty simple bolt in for my 67???

I've read of several different ways people have gone about this on here and honestly thought I had it set...apparently not.

better yet...has anyone out there ran into issues with all 4 bolts not lining up??? if I can make what I have work, that would be nice. trying to go straight into firewall...no bracket

after more reading, it does seem a bracket may be the best arrangement, possibly something from captainfab

i just picked up a used booster, bracket and rod off a junkyard truck. isn't there a salvage yard in ozark or dothan???

I actually just moved here about two months ago so I haven't honestly looked around for any junkyards yet. I intended on looking one up today and going by while I was off but couldn't get around to it.

i'm sure there are some around though. i'll actually try and google some now and get out to one tomorrow.

are you aware of any similar vehicles that may offer something comparable to the bracket off of a 67-72 c10, or am I better off continuing the search until I find one of these trucks specifically...it's a small town, I just wonder what the likelihood of finding one around here is. guess I won't know until I go.

I purchased a booster and master cylinder from O'Reilly's and a Tuff Stuff bracket from Summit. It would have been nice if the bracket had an instruction sheet. After mounting it what I guessed was correct my mechanic neighbor insisted the master cylinder should tilt up, not down. We flipped the bracket and the rods didn't line up. It still is mounted upside down but I have since found a thread on this site and a picture. I printed both to end the argument with my neighbor and painter who agreed with him. I will mount it correctly this weekend.

If you get the Tuff Stuff bracket the pivot point for the lever thingy is on the bottom.

what is it off of? do you know the spacing between the holes that the booster would bolt to? is the other side a good match up for bolting directly in on the 67 firewall?
