Cool 10 exhaust question

Is a hairline crack in the exhaust manifold bad for the valves in the head? I ask because I’ve been driving the truck like this for years without any issues. As always thanks for the advice.

Not sure if it matters, but it is the passenger side that has a crack.

I don't think the valves will care. Don't know about your ears though.

Re: 10 exhaust question

Thanks a bunch guys. I wasd so worried about screwing up my valves...all the headers I've come across will need to adjust my exhaust system due to the dual straight pipes. Plus, headers are notorious for burning hot...

Re: 10 exhaust question

Valves like to burn if they don't seat properly; valve can't transfer much heat to seat if it doesn't touch.

Headers have more surface area than manifold so they radiate more heat.

Re: 10 exhaust question

Hate to rain on this one, some times a manifold crack develops due to excessive heat from a cylinder. Could mean a larger issue. If the manifold is fairly consistent coloured, it shouldn't be an issue. But if the metal is much different from the rest of the manifold (a grey)it could indicate a problem with that cylinder.

Re: 10 exhaust question

Is it ok to run with open exhaust with yard driving, meaning the manifold is not connected to the exhaust pipe on the passenger side as I'm looking for a cheap replacement...could that cause any issues?
