65 Saddle Tanks

Since I already have two of these tanks and I found out today they hold about 15 gallons each. I plan to remove them from the stock location, clean them and rhino them and then relocate them inside the bed behind the tires.

Now what I would like to know is, how big of a line should I use as a balance tube? I will still have two filler necks, one on each side thru the top rail of the bed. Rather than having a switch that can fail, joining them together to make one 30 gallon tank will work just fine. I was thinking -20 should be big enough run under the bed. I will then run two -10 lines from the tanks to the filter and so on.

Re: 65 Saddle Tanks

If you need a -10 to feed your engine, I would think a -12 or -16 would be plenty to connect the two tanks.

WOW a -10 feed to the engine should be plenty! LOL! You might want to add a return line.
I would think a -6 for a stock engine would be enough, maybe a -8.

I agree with a -20 for a balance tube.

Re: 65 Saddle Tanks

It will be -10 from both tanks to the filter and -10 from the filter to the pump and then -8 from the pump to the regulator. The pump will have its own bypass so no need for a return line.
Should I run one filter from each tank instead?

Re: 65 Saddle Tanks

You can make it alot simpler if running a balance tube. There's no need to draw from both tanks. Just pull from the passenger side tank, up the frame rail to the pump with an inline filter.

My question is:
What are you running for an engine that requires that much fuel?
Unless I am wrong -8 is 1/2" and -10 is 5/8" or very close. I would think -8 from tank to pump would be sufficient and -6 from pump to carb. You pump can only supply so much fuel, regardless of the amount getting to it.

Not saying you are wrong, more curious than anything.

On our AA/FA altered we only run a -10 from the pump to the injector- but it's 2700 HP running on 85% alcohol and 15% nitromethane.

Re: 65 Saddle Tanks

From what I have read its more about volume than pressure so the larger amount I can send forward the better. You figure tank to regulator is about 16 feet, so the further it has to travel the less pressure and volume you have. The motor is an LS based 6.0L with dual 600 cfm carbs on a midrise manifold. The cam will be in the low .600 range and compression will be near 10.3:1. In the future I might want more power so doing my fuel system once that will allow upwards of 1000HP is better than having to much than not enough. Down the road I plan to build a blown motor for it. A kind of old school meets new with an 8-71 on an LS. Don Hampton can build me a manifold for half of what BDS wants for one.
