Does not sound "factory" to me either. Pictures, documentation would help. Are you sure it is not an early nose on a later truck?

Re: how rare might it be

This is going to by one of those times when rare and valuable are not necessarily synonymous.
You throw in 3/4 ton, AC, PS and PB, CST, etc and you might be starting to talk rare and maybe even a little extra value on top, but at the end of the day these are still old pickups, not Superbees.

Re: how rare might it be

Despite the transmission, even if this were a more well optioned vehicle it wouldn't be rare. Unfortunately and as already covered, these are trucks and not muscle cars. Find one documented with legit super sport badging and you'll have found that rare gem. I'd hold my breath for a unicorn though.

How did we get onto value and comparing to muscle cars? Trucks are trucks and cars are cars. They both have their value scales. A K/1500 LWB Fenderside would be somewhat rare. We seldom see one rolling around and they had fairly low production numbers. The question is whether this truck is a factory truck with updated drivetrain parts, front end swap,2wd-4wd conversion,or body swap onto a newer frame.

Re: how rare might it be

Mybe it's not even an automatic. Let's see the pics and go from there. The VIN will start with a "K" and not a "C". If it was a V8 from factory the next letter will be "E". If it's am "M" then it was a V6 and an "S" means I-6

Re: how rare might it be

Those pictures don't show much to its originality. I can spot several issues with the engine bay, for instance the 73+ valve covers, fan shroud, and odd angled fuel line. VIN is the only way to tell.

Re: how rare might it be

There were fewer 68 GMC K20's produced than either corvettes or Z-28's that year. Don't know what some of you are basing your rarity comments on. Value is another story, as we know.

The hubs look correct for a 68 K20 GMC

Re: how rare might it be

It appears to be a factory Canadian-built K920 Deluxe (3/4t 4wd). The V8 appears to have been swapped-in to replace the original I-6. So,what transmission did it have and did you get pictures of the SPID or VIN?

A little paint thinner on a rag might get a look at the spid. This is an interesting truck.
