Chevy Aluminum Step Plate position ?

Guys,
Any ideas on the correct position of the Bowtie Step Plates on the running boards for my AD 55 ?
Also I have heard about oxidization issues, is it wise to try and mount it on a thin rubber gasket of some kind ? or maybe even a stainless washer so it kind of floats a little.

the way I would do it is sit in the seat watch closely where your left goes comfortably on the running board as you step out. that is where your left foot will pivot as you step out with your right foot doing the most paint damage.

You can also use 3M paint protection film over the whole running board
I used 2 layers of 3M film on my 58 steps with excellent success for 20000 miles
I'm a gimp and have to use my steps to get in and out

Exactly as he said. Put them where the foot will hit getting in and out as that is what they are supposed to be used for and not just shiny decoration.

Re: Chevy Aluminum Step Plate position ?

Do not attach with stainless unless stainless is isolated from aluminum. Stainless in direct contact with aluminum will cause aluminum plate to corrode away. Best answer is to use nylon sheet below plate and nylon washers above.
