First Build
Hey guys, I'm new to the forum and thought i would interduce myself and my project. I purchased this 1954 GMC truck going on 5 years ago. At that time I had never undertaken any kind of major vehicle work, so thought it would be a perfect learner project.

Had a few things happen over the years that put it on the back burner but im going at it again. I'll post a few pictures of where Im at as I can. Also have a list of questions I'm sure you guys can help with?

Welcome!
What are your plans for it? Many years ago I worked for Rockwell on the Shuttle program and traveled from SoCal to Binghampton, NY once a month for program review meetings. Is IBM still there? Beautiful area as I remember it. |

Welcome from the middle of Washington State. I can well relate to things and life getting in the way of a project getting finished.

My ongoing truck projects: 48 Chev 3100 that will run a 292 Six. 71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant. 77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around. |

Dan, The IBM campus/buildings are still there yes. Though IBM is not. BAE Systems, a global defence government contact company as recently inhabited the grounds. I have been part of the renovations since this past November. The amount of real estate those buildings take up is mind boggling, as im sure you recall.

i had no intent whatsoever to take this project to the extreme it has gone. Yet another reason it is still sitting on jack stands. But once I got into it I couldn't stop.
The end result should be a custom 54' long bed, shortened, boxed, notched, bagged, with a mustang 2 front and a 4 link rear sitting on 20" with disc brakes in all four corners. |

Welcome. It seems that these projects always get out of hand, especially if you find this forum and see what others are doing. You are doing a nice job, and you already know if you have watched the forum, we love pics.
I graduated from IBM "basic" at the IBM Homestead in Binghamton on July 5th, 1962. Was there for four months and had a great time. Fusco's restaurant and Gentleman Joe's bar come to mind. Retired from IBM in 1999. |

Nice project. Like everyone else - would like to know what the plans are on it? That truck looks solid, if I had to guess, did you get it out of state?

I forgot to mention, when we out of state guys arrived in Binghamton they made a point to tell us "There's no "P" in Binghamton". It isn't pronounced Bing-Hampton.
OK, no more Binghamton comments from me, LOL. I just have pleasant memories of being there and seeing it mentioned brought it back to me. |

Thanks for the warm welcome guys. I'm sometimes hesitant to share photos or info on my projects. It seems most "true" car guys dont like to see people start hacking away. It's good to know this is a place where people can share their creations and not be condemned.

Good start and I am impressed that you are taking this on a first project! The conversion to short bed is no small task, and it looks like you are being extremely careful and accurate in your work. Bravo! Depending on your drivetrain choices, it looks like you and I may end up with similar "cousins" (Chevy & GMC) here. I'll keep watching!
