Look what I found
Was looking through some old boxes of stuff that I got when I got my 68 from my wife's grandfather 4 years ago. Found the original owners manual, the service log with vin # stamped though every page, original inspection sheet from when it left the factory and the protect-o-plate with all my wife's grandfathers info stamped in it. Pretty cool find to go along with the truck. Also have the original title and I am looking at getting the original license plate restored.

I am second owner of the truck as grandpa was the original owner. It was all left in the glove box but when we tore it down to restore, it got dumped into a box and I just found it. Thought I had lost it.
When I transferred the title I got lucky and got a nice person at the DMV that day and they let me keep the title and did not require me to sign it. Just had to sign an affidavit that said the title was for historic purposes only. The date it left the factory and the date he purchased are about 6 months apart. Built in February of 68 and bought in October. Posted via Mobile Device

Wow WA state is nice at the dmv. I had the original title for my 1948 suburban and went to the Illinois Secretaty of State (our dmv). I explained my reservations about submitting the original 1948 Oklahoma title and they told me to write a letter about my intentions with the original title and they included it with the tranfer paperwork. I never saw it again. Luckily I had color copies made but its not the same. Illinois s.o.s. sucks!

Nice!!!
I'm the 4th owner, and I still have the manual, metal imprint plate and key-code knockout. My uncle wanted the receipt when his neighbor bought the truck used in '72. Just couldn't say no to that, he was willing to sell it to me. I do need him to make me a copy though.

That's really neat! Call me dumb, but I've never seen a protect-o-plate. I know what they are, but have no clue where they went or what they look like.
