Vin decoding

Is there anything else a guy can learn on a truck by the vin besides the obvious year chassis type and motor, can you tell anything by the sequence numbers?

don't have a build sheet with the rpo codes so just trying to find out if there's anything else that can be decoded. Vin num is ccs1461147332

Re: Vin decoding

You can find out where it was built in the first 11 digits.

All 17 digits can get you an original build sheet from the GM heritage center here in the US. I'm not sure about Canadian built trucks but probably...

http://Compnine.com may have your truck in their database. If they have it they can provide a complete list of original options. You'll need all 17 digits and you'll have to give them an email address to sign up for a 24hour trial...
I got complete RPO lists from them for my 2009 Impala SS and my 2000 GMC. The M1008 CUCV is self explanatory and my 1976 is not in any database including GM.

RTFM... GM Parts Books, GM Schematics, GM service manuals, and GM training materials...Please include at least the year and model in your threads. It'll be easier to answer your questions.
And please let us know if and how your repairs were successful.

Here is a VIN card for 1985 GM passenger cars and trucks (trucks are on page 2) so that you can decode for yourself:

We used to carry these around in our pocket.

Yes - GM of Canada can offer the service for any vehicle either built in Canada or built in the US for Candian use.

They actually had the service before the GM Heritage center did (...but not before Pontiac did...)

Sorry - I wasn't looking that closely;

VIN card for '76:

http://service.gm.com/dealerworld/vi.../vincard76.pdf

and - yes - if it was built in Oshawa then GM of Canada will have the records by VIN.

They were able to give me the information for my '74 Chevelle (also built in Oshawa for US use).
