Jumpy fuel gauge

How much movement is normal of the needle when driving? My 71's is all over the place from the gas sloshing around in the tank. The guy I bought it from said when it stops moving it's about out. Even with the truck just sitting I can shake it and the needle moves like crazy.

Re: Jumpy fuel gauge

it sounds to me like you may have a bad connection some where. might look at the wire and see if its trying to seperate, or has a brake in it, and check the wire at the sending unit and see if its clean and making good contact, i have seen the wires along the floor get corroded and turn green inside the insulation , from water and dirt and old wires. they also make a gage repair kit that might help if everything shows good...
