1954 1 ton rear-end question...
I just purchased a 1954 Chevy 3800 single wheel rear axle truck. I want to make it a flat bed dually so here is my question.
Can I just put dually rims and tires on the rear end that I have or did Chevrolet make a specific rear end just for dually's in this year. Thanks for your answers. D

Re: 1954 1 ton rear-end question...
I don't know about the original axles. I know the newer ones are different. The axle is the same, but the hub and brakes are different. I think you would be better off with a newer axle anyhow since you could get better gear ratios for highway driving.

Re: 1954 1 ton rear-end question...
I think the dually axles are narrower and the studs are longer other than that the same. Those Eaton rear ends came in two ratios slow and slower. 4.56 and 5.13 I have heard
of 4.1 but have yet to see one. There is also a ring thed goes on the outside wheel to accept the taper on the lug nuts. |
