crank position sensor

I've got a check engine code for the crank position sensor. Is this an easy fix (replacing the sensor) or could it be something else?

Truck runs fine, 1999 sub, 5.7, 4X4 half ton, 150,000 miles...

If I didn't replace it. what could it effect, gas mileage, rough idle, etc...

Thanks for your input!
