Wood BEd - Offset washer question
I am converting my GMC over to a wood bed. We are almost to the point we can bolt in the final pieces, but I have a question on the offset washers.
How would they have looked from the factory? I'm just not sure on the orientation of the washer as compared to the bolt holes. Which way would the larger side of the washer go? Assuming more 'away' from the strip explaining why the washers were offset to begin with (?) Just wanted to be sure. I have the actual holes drilled and lined up perfectly I just can't figure out how I should do the offset washer recessed hole orientation. Pics maybe ? Btw- I did search, and found several posts but I am just curious how they looked stock. I'll match mine up as closely as possible. Mar-K has a description of it but no pics I can find (yet) Thanks.

Re: Wood BEd - Offset washer question
I'm not sure if this will help you, but this is the only pic I have of my stock wood bed. You can see the orientation of the washers closest to the rear of the truck. I'm not sure why they used the offset washers honestly. Hopefully someone will have a better answer for you.

Re: Wood BEd - Offset washer question
After flipping through my wood bed pictures they all seem to be pointing forward with the offset. Now hopefully someone with a shortbed will add to this as most of my pictures are Longhorns.
Dads Longhorn has some nice, but not complete, pictures on her thread here. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=581716 The bed washers have offset holes to prevent rotation of the carriage bolt during installation. How are you intending to cut the washer recess? My thoughts are a forstner bit, router or end mill.

Re: Wood BEd - Offset washer question
I read on some post that the recessed offset washers were to keep the bolts from spinning when the nuts are tightened. Made sense to me.
