Ran out of gas...
I think the pump is burnt out maybe? Is that possible? I ran out of gas, after filling back up, when I try and start it, it just spins, and is really hard to start. If it does start it will not idle. As soon as I let off the gas it just sputters and will die

Re: Ran out of gas...
Only way to know is do a fuel pressure test, have had a simular experiance and turned out to be the ignition module, that is why you want to check for fuel.

Re: Ran out of gas...
Well, it's got fuel. Gas sprays when I hit the pedal. If I pump it a bunch, it will start, but always dies after a minute when I let off

Re: Ran out of gas...
If it is hei and you want to test the ignition module, regular auto parts stores can test them. I had a bad one that would run till it heated up, then die and not start till it cooled off. Other ones I've had go bad will just turn over and never fire.

Re: Ran out of gas...
It ran fine before I ran out of gas. Problem is, I ran out just as I pulled into the station. Meaning I'm still sittin here....

Re: Ran out of gas...
That is what I was thinking also, could be fuel filter is partly plugged, for what it is worth change it then if still not enough check fuel presure, it may be low and supply enough to start only then not be strong enough to keep the supply up to demand.

Re: Ran out of gas...
I just let it sit for awhile, started it and held my foot on the gas enough to keep it steady for about 10 minutes. Ran fine after that. Maybe something did get caught, but its a new tank, filter, everything. Strange

Re: Ran out of gas...
Sounds like a vapor lock to me. Pretty common if you run the lines dry and the motor is hot.

Re: Ran out of gas...
How does that cause vapor lock? I thought vapor lock was when the gas got so hot it vaporized?

Re: Ran out of gas...
When it runs out of gas and the engine is hot from running, you get almost instant vapor lock. Not much fuel in the lines so the heat vaporizes the fuel quickly.

Re: Ran out of gas...
My guess would be Edelbrock 1406/1407 (?) I had one to do almost the exact same thing.. but mine wouldn't start back up at all.

Re: Ran out of gas...
A little off topic, but when I was a lot younger, I own a 71 Cheyenne. The fuel gauge was broken and I can't even count the number of times I ran out of gas! Beer was way more important to me at the time, so I never filled her up completely. I use to swerve from side to side just to hear the gas sloth back and forth. I would also stand outside the truck and shake it too see if I could hear any gas. Obviously it didn't work to will. Lol. Glad to hear your truck is back up and running.
