1968 c10 door locks not working

I cannot seem to get the door locks to work from the outside. I can get them to lock on the inside. Have taken off door panel, lubricated etc the inside but still not luck. Does anyone know if I need to replace the exterior door locks? Do I just need to purchase new door latches? If I buy new latches can I use the existing exterior door lock and handle?

I had the same on my 67. I put new latches in. You'll get suggestions to lube them, adjust the striker, adjust the door and on and on but parts wear out. I bought mine from LMC for 100 bucks a pair.

Exactly what do you mean when you say you can't get the door locks to work from the outside? Do you mean you can't get them to lock or unlock with the key? Will the keys turn in both directions when you put it in the lock cylinder and turn them. If the doors open and close OK and they will lock on the inside with the lock button then there is nothing wrong with the latch or locking mechanism.

What LockDoc said.Plus to lock these trucks you must use the key in the lock to get it to lock from outside or it will not lock.See,a conveinience feature,You can't lock your keys in it.

If you just replaced the seal are anything try the old shoulder in the door. While pushing in on door lock it. It works everytime.

It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Thing is Andy, If that is the problem I don't think it would lock with the inside button either...

Mine did until a few weeks ago. I took everything a part and adjusted on the doors for weeks and finally hit the sweet spot. Now they shut and lock with no problem.

Re: 1968 c10 door locks not working

I hate to bring this thread back from the grave but I wanted to ask a question as I have a similar issue.

My passenger side door is like this, I can close and lock it from the inside, it latches fine with some pulling, but when I use the key to lock form the outside the key never clicks it fully into lock. I have pushed on the door etc but it never clicks fully and thus never locks.
The latch looks good and the striker looks good, do I just need to adjust the strike plate to line up better?

On a related note, my driver side door also will not lock but I think it has to do with the rusting out of the door frame that holds the door latch in place. 2 of the bolt holes have rusted out and its just hanging by one that will go any-day. The door closes and latches but its not lined up right. Is this something a body-shop can fix correctly or do I need to get another door?

Thanks.

If you roll the window down all the way and use a good flashlight you can see the door latch and locking mechanisim down through the window channel. Spray the crap out of everything down in there with a good penetrating oil (not WD-40) and open and close the door a few times, pull the lock rod up and down a few times, then
lock and unlock it with the key a few times. See if that frees it up.

GM Jesus juice it is then. Thanks, I will give that a shot.

Any ideas on the what I should do about the Driver side? Is that something a body shop can line up correctly?

A shop might be able to fix that but you will probably have to get a section from another door to patch it with.
