Carb issue??? Maybe.
I just replaced my 750 holley with a 670 street avenger holley, as soon as I replaced it, the engine ran fine - like a top. A few days had past I went out to start up the truck, it started up but sounded like it wasn't running on all cylinders. That's because it wasn't - No. 2, 5,& 7 was not firing at all. I pulled the plugs out and cleaned them, checked the gap. Replaced the plugs, swapped around a few wires just to make sure it wasn't the wires. And still the same result. Could it be the carb? I'm sure it could be a number of things but I'm stumped.

Re: Carb issue??? Maybe.
How did you determine the plugs were not firing? Did you use a timing light on each cable or did you remove the plug and ground it?
The carb itself would not cause the plugs not to fire but if it were running rich it could cause a flooding condition that would prevent them from firing. Should notice black or dark gray smoke on exhaust.

Re: Carb issue??? Maybe.
=The plugs looked normal.
=The headers on #2,5,7 were cool to the touch.

Re: Carb issue??? Maybe.
It doesn't sound like a Carb issue with those three cylinders being in order in the firing order. Are you getting spark at those cylinders? I would check for spark on those cylinders first. Hth, Dan.

What he said........a outta the box 670 Avenger will run on almost all small block chevy without being rich enough to foul plugs. Check spark through your wires, trace back to your distributor. |

Re: Carb issue??? Maybe.
I was just reading on another fourm about sbc's with the same symptoms and I think that it is probably is the distributor. Its a cheap swap meet one, I will check it out tomorrow.

Funny thing is Street Avengers are normally too lean out of the box.

Re: Carb issue??? Maybe.
I think I have it worked, I pulled the distributor cap off, cleaned the contacts up. Then the truck started up fine.
So, I decided to take it around the block. no big deal except the bed is off of it. With that said the truck will turn the tires over at the drop of a hat. As I was near my road that I live on I was at a stop sign heading straight, I stalled the truck up and hammered down on it, the truck didn't hook up at all but it sounded like it was. So I turned onto my road a goosed it again, no big deal. Before I could get out of my truck I had a neighbor about 4 houses down standing about 10 feet away. She was in her 50s I would guess, but she was some kind of pissed off. She began with "I believe that I have been a pretty good neighbor" implying that I have not been I guess. but she when on about how if she ever hears my truck again or sees me "spinning tires" again that she will be forced to call the law I did the only thing that I could "Yes Mam" I know that I was in the wrong but its not like I do that every single day. On the bright side I think that my truck is fixed.
