62 chevy front crossmember swap
Hey guys,
I'm in the planning stage of rebuilding my late gpas 62 chevy truck. I want disc brakes,ps,the whole works. A few pple told me to use original frame and use front xmember from a 73-87 chevy. Is this the best way or wat do u suggest? Thanks Posted via Mobile Device |

Re: 62 chevy front crossmember swap
Hi Rich & welcome to the neighborhood.
It's a practical option for sure and one that I did on my 62 C10 not that long ago. 78 front crossmember with 1 1/4 brakes, factory sway bar with drop brackets, 3 inch drop coils, REZ kit on the power steering gear box, Bell 2 1/2 drop spindles with McHaughy's 6 lug rotors, etc. rg |

Re: 62 chevy front crossmember swap
I'm a big fan of the '73-'87 (or '91 if you're using a Suburban) swap. Very straight forward, you have to drill two new holes and elongate two others. I would suggest trying to find a heavier duty 1/2 ton, with the 1.25" rotors and the larger diameter sway bar. You are more apt to find these on the 1/2 ton Suburbans because they were heavier and needed the bigger brakes. Plus, parted-out Suburbans can be had for nearly the scrap cost.
Lots of great info here on the board for this swap. I say, go for it!!
