Tach advice

So Im adding an original tach to my truck and have a few questions.

1 Im getting the HEI harness from Classic Parts which dimple do I drill out on the firewall to run the wire through? A pic would be great!

2 I want to test the tach before I put it in do I just run a wire to the tach lead on the HEI distributor to the tach and then the other terminal on the tach to 12V?

3 Do I have to do anything different because Im using HEI?

It's really pretty straight forward, especially where you have HEI. I just picked a hole. Not sure if there is a correct one. Don't see any reason why you couldn't test it like you mentioned. Here's my tach installation thread, that should give you a couple pointers

Make sure it's grounded before you test it, otherwise it will fry.
