Door weather strip

I am posting 2 pictures of door weather stripping so you can see what you get with cheap stuff. In both pics the taller or bigger piece of strip is made across the Pacific ocean. The smaller piece is made here in the good old USA by Steel rubber products. http://www.steelerubber.com/ It does cost more money for it but it will fit the truck and you can close your door. It is well worth the extra $$ just be sure and check the point of origin, they don't have a clue how to make one over there.

Re: Door weather strip

I just installed door seals on my 60 GMC yesterday and the doors don't want to close....the weatherstripping came with the truck from the prior owner so I'm guessing I may have the crappy stuff!

Re: Door weather strip

Is there a good product to get the black adhesive off without ruining your paint? I had my painter install the cheap door seals that I bought several years ago (waiting for paint), and now my doors won't close. The adhesive that came with the seals was dried out, so he bought some unknown black adhesive at the local auto parts store. The guy should stick to paint and not installing seals because he got the glue everywhere. I would like to remove and replace with the Steel product, but it is a mess under (and in some cases, beyond) the current seals.

Thanks

You might try "Goo Gone" its a bug and tar remover that works well with trim adhesive. Safe for paint too.

I used the clear 3-M that Steel recommended you can clean it up with mineral spirits. I don't know about what ever the black stuff is. You will have to find out what the black stuff was as the clean up may be different. Even the 3-M recommends not to get it on paint cause it may lift it good luck...Vernski
