rocker, door pillar replace where to start

Ok so I started removing all the crappy stuff and got to see what I needed. My plan of attack is to start with the door pillar and go from there. However my delima is where is the correct location of the pillar, meaning hight, how do i figure that out?

check out user "Boat" he has a build thread that shows how he did his rockers and door panels. He also has a youtube channel http://www.youtube.com/user/1gibsonl4 with good videos on the same things.

Re: rocker, door pillar replace where to start

OP, I just received your PM and saw your thread here. When I did my door pillars, I just measured carefully using a few reference points. The little tab that sticks rearward on the front door pillars, the flanged lines on both the front and rear pillars, the shape of the pillars, etc., can all be used to reference off of. Just take your time and be sure you have your lines correct before you cut.

Re: rocker, door pillar replace where to start

Ok so I am TRYING to get the rear floor pan support off( the one that attaches to the inner rocker) any suggestions on a good tool to get it off where it slips into the long support or a technique? Its getting kind of frustrating.

A cutoff wheel and a body saw (small reciprocating saw) will make the necessary cuts.

Re: rocker, door pillar replace where to start

My next question is brothers truck parts offers a rear floor support cover. How does it work? I am assuming I should cut out the rust and weld the slip cover over the rest?

Re: rocker, door pillar replace where to start

I thought there were two styles: a slip over and a direct replacement. If at all possible, I'd recommend the direct replacement... The slip ons in my experience start rotting front the inside out due to the old metal they are covering.

Re: rocker, door pillar replace where to start

Agreed. I'd advise against the slip-over. Get the "direct" replacement, but plan on reworking it a bit to make it fit correctly.
