Re: 6.2 turbo diesel
I think it would be great! If you are searching for an engine I would suggest a 95, 96, or 97 donor 6.5 Turbo diesel. I have had both and the 6.5 will please you better I believe. They are not too complicated and trucks in these years are fairly cheap in this area. Just a thought, good luck with it.

Re: 6.2 turbo diesel
I have the 6.5TD in my 94 Dually. Great light duty engine and would be perfect with great mpg. The 6.2 in my opinion would be a waste of time. I'd go 6.5TD.

Re: 6.2 turbo diesel
You would definitely want a turbo, also even though the newer 6.5 did have better intakes and cooling systems you would want a 93 and older injection pump (DB-2) since its mechanical, the 4911 is the one to look for. The 6.2 typically had a stronger bottom end and over the years all of them (6.2/6.5) had a few different pre chamber designs. They can be reliable and get decent MPG but are in no way a power house without some serious modifications. Also the heads are prone to cracking and they like to spit out cranks from time to time. What are your expectations out of it? I'm just asking because you said its either the 6.2/6.5 or a 572 and those are two very different options.

Re: 6.2 turbo diesel
I had everything to put a 6.2 non turbo in a '71, but had to toss it all when I moved. It's not a bad swap from what I gathered. I planned to do hydroboost brakes, there is a great write up on a junkyard hydro setup on here somewhere.

Re: 6.2 turbo diesel
BrewCity and I have both done the hydro boost installs.
So far I dont think either one of us found it to be too terribly complicated, though I am pretty sure his will be up and running sooner than mine. Having said that, he will certainly be able to provide perfomance info sooner than I can.
