I did just what you are trying to do, it is not hard at all, you will need to shave the holes a little and just make sure you have your wiring figured out. I had rewired my whole truck at the time with the painless kit, made it real easy.

The painless kit I did rewired the whole truck, gives you wiring for power windows, locks seats, everything. I was able to do the entire kit in under 2 days. Every individual wire is labeled over and over from end to end. Very user friendly kit. Word of warning though, where the fuse block goes through the fire wall, you have to cut the hole bigger.

Also I put led's in them too. Although, now I am going to have to change them to blue les's.

But, if you don't want to rewire the whole truck, just go get a Chilton's manual. It has all the wiring diagrams.

Re: Help on New Gauge Cluster with Auto meter Gauges

I have a full autometer setup in my blazer. I used 3 sets of the flat 4way trailer wiring connectors and plugs and then wrapped some colored electrical tape on the connectors to keep them from getting mixed up. That way if I need to remove the cluster I can easily.

Re: Help on New Gauge Cluster with Auto meter Gauges

I just put all new autometer gauges in, looks dead sexy and was actually pretty easy.
I went with Electric gauges, had to remote mount the oil pressure sending unit on the frame rail as there was not enough clearance between my block and headers (454)

The Tach was the second easiest - Just one wire to the ignition (I have MSD ignition, so that helps)
Easiest was the voltmeter - just run power to it!
Loads of info on here and other sites.
I used a billet aluminum bezel and so I had to cut two tabs in my dash

With the painless wiring do I still use manual gauges or electrical?

I would go with Electric, but that is personal preference.
-You can get a tach easy
-Easier to calibrate spedometer
-No oil line running into your cab
