Radiator installed, time to add coolant. What type of mix are you guys running?
In the process of installing my new motor and was able to get the radiator installed this afternoon. What kind of coolant are you guys running and what ratio of coolant and water? Stupid question I know but was just curious.

Water is a good coolant but makes the cast iron flash rust quickly.
Aluminum may pit after anti corrosion components of coolant used up. If don't change on schedule then anti corrosion additive should be used. Hard tap water can plug cores. I use coolant+distilled water and heavy equipment filter w/ time release additive. |

Guess I will just go with a normal 50/50 mix. Any idea how much coolant it will take since its completely empty?

Back in the day, prestone label included correct ratio for climate. Now 50/50 is common. Easy to remember and prestone gets to sell more coolant. Win win

Use distilled water not tap water and run that for awhile, then drain radiator and add coolant and distilled water since its a fresh rebuild.

Evans sells a lifetime coolant but its not cheap.
