A 275 tire is 10.8" tread width that's pretty wide for an 8" wheel.
You should try to keep wheel width and tread width as close as possible.
Don't forget to factor tire bulge into your beer math too.
I bet a 275 is close to 13" wide sidewall to sidewall.
How wide is fender opening to bed wall?

I ran 275-60-15 tires on 15x8 wheels for a few years on my 59 fleetside. They had 4" back spacing on a stock width rear. I did not have any issues.

I have 275/60/15 on the rear of mine, on a factory 4x4 (80's k10) rally wheel. Its a little snug in the rear. My bed is a fleet, which i believe is wider than a step

Recommended rim width from BFG is 7.5 to 9.5; tread with is reported to be 9 inches with an overall section width of 11.1 (can depend on rim width)-all according to BFG site. My concern is not as much the tire as the rim....

I had 275/60s on the back of my 55 on 8 inch rallys, they rubbed on the fenders. I put 255/70s on it and they worked ok.

Thanks. The folks at Discount tire (Locally) said the could mount the tire on the rim and test fit it and if does not work we could change to another tire (no charge for tire if it does not work). So I will keep the 255/70 in mind.

Re: 15x8 inch rally w/4.25 backspace

I'm running 245r65-15's on Corvette AZ code 15x8 ralleys (4" offset) on a Camaro 10 bolt and they are 1/2" from the bed and 3/8" from the fender. I have some light rub marks on the bed from cornering too! I was told the Corvette had the 4" offset and the 4.25" offset is from the Camaro?!?
