Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
Guys,
We are on the Hot Rod Power Tour with my 65 pulling a 1700# trailer. Below is a picture of my rig, the trailer, and the two cars travelling with me as we leave Greenville SC last Thursday. We are testing out non-pneumatic tires by Michelin (Tweels). Note that my truck is the only one running on pneumatic tires including the trailer! The Morris Minor Traveler is a work of art, truly a show car that runs on the highway, built by Zach Merrill of Greenville. Check out the wide whites on the Morris. The tour is going from Arlington (Dallas) Texas to Charlotte NC by way of Texarkana, Little Rock, Memphis, Birmingham, and Chattanooga. It will be about 3000 miles for us. We are more than half way and the old truck is running great, air conditioning wide open. Below that are some 60-66 trucks I snapped today at the venue in Memphis.

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
I've always wanted to do the Power Tour! Sounds like it's a great time, and I can imagine you meet some great people along the way.
How is the ride of a Tweel? Is it comparable to a pneumatic tire? I found those things to be fascinating, but I'm not 100% sold on the look. A little too futuristic for me.

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
Resto,
This is my first tour. The people are fantastic, really friendly and helpful. You see some really strange and beautiful cars. After 125 years we need some major improvement or replacement of the pneumatic tire. We are logging all the stranded vehicles due to flats that we see on the tour. No flats, no maintenance, no mounting with Tweels. We are selling them for Skid Steer Loaders, to prevent down time and give better performance than pneumatic tires. More products coming. Automobiles are a ways off but we are getting very close performance wise. TR

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
Nice pics! Would love to do the tour myself sometime. Seems like a lot of fun. Hope you're having a great time.
Those tires are very unique & definitely cool technology. They do look quite weird though.

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
I was able to spend a couple of hours walking around the Little Rock Venue, but somehow missed your truck. That's a bummer because you have a nice ride. Missed the tweels as well, would've been cool to see the Morris in
Person, I owned a 54 coupe while stationed in Portugal back in 85... Enjoy the Power Tour! Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
Don,
I would have liked to meet you. We were in a poor spot in Little Rock. Much better today in Birmingham. Dave the Bar Tender was cooking free food and we were giving away other stuff. Good time until a storm hit at 6PM. Closing time anyway. On to Chattanooga tomorrow. Got another 64 but missed a couple I will try to get tomorrow. I have been handing out cards for our site to all the chevy truck guys I meet. Check this out. http://blogs.hotrod.com/tweeling-int...#axzz2VG4J2FAo Final shot out the back window of the 65. TR

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
I look forward to the day when I can finally retire from this Rat Race and go and enjoy something like the Power Tour. It looks like a blast. Car people, hot rods, Barbeques.......what's not to like???
Keep posting pictures! I look forward to thread, although I have to admit that I'm extremely jealous!

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
Thanks Resto. It is a blast. Saw the world record burn-out attempt at the IMAX drag strip today. Smoke like you have never seen.
Made it to Charlotte, 11 hour trip from Chattanooga. The truck never complained a bit while towing the 1700# trailer 3000 miles. Not one issue with it. All the other vehicles with us, including the trailer had problems, but not the old 65. Home tomorrow, 120 more miles. Saw a few more 60-66 trucks at the dragway today: The first one is a real beauty. Has the nicest bed cover that I have seen. I didn't catch the owner unfortunately.

Re: Hot Rod Power Tour 2013
The Long Haulers (made the whole trip, and had ticked punched at each venue) met Saturday morning at the XMAX Dragway at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for a group picture and a gift of a nice metal sign.
Made it home safe and sound this afternoon (Greenville SC) Here are the stats: 2683 miles - 14.6 mpg (pulling 1700# trailer) This MPG should be pretty close, the miles came from my calibrated scan gauge. Great trip, highly recommended, thousands of hot rods, all ages, great people. 8 day rolling cruise in. TR PS check out the world record burnout video, made Friday at the XMAX Mothers shot some motion pics of one of our cars running on Tweels, the Morris Minor Traveller. http://powertour.net/04_community_05..._00_June5.html
