What do you think of this truck...

I am new to the 50's era trucks (I am very familiar with the 67 - 72's) and I have a sudden hankerin for a 5 window. I just came across this one and was looking for some opinions as well as what one could expect to pay for something along these lines.

Click Here for a very detailed video

Thanks in advance,

BAT

Re: What do you think of this truck...

He is asking 5900 and with the video advertising as well done as it is I'd think he full and well expects to get that.

It has a bit of rust that has been hidden with bondo from the looks of it and he seems to play down the rust on the bottom of the door posts. Not a bad project truck that you could drive for the rest of the season before tearing it down to redo though.

71 GMC 2500 that is getting a Cad 500 transplant.
77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

Re: What do you think of this truck...

Is that a fair and/or going rate based on what the condition appears to be? I don't know this market at all.

I don't know about up where you're at, but for down here that's a little on the high side. It does seem like a good start though.

Re: What do you think of this truck...

That's high for Southern California. Assuming he'd take $5500, POSSIBLY $5000 I think you could find as good here for a bit less. I think he's talking out his a$$ about the 235's being noisy, "...kinda like a diesel". Only if the tappets aren't adjusted right.

It's a nice truck to get started from and maybr in your area low rust trucks are harder to come by(?). You could leave it as is longer term as long as you fix the cancer, get four matching rims with good rubber, upgrade to a dual reservoir master cylinder - all of which will cost you another $1000, or more if you cannot weld and if you buy new rims or wide whites.

I'd be VERY mindful about checking for cancer. It's the total difference between picking this one vs. another truck.

Re: What do you think of this truck...

i agree with mr48 in that the cab corners are full of filler
there are other rust issues that will need to be taken care of
depending on the level you want to take the finish too
west coast trucks (where mr48 and dan live) are relatively rust free,
bat lives in the rustbelt, that is a very good truck for the area
of coarse the less you get it for, the more you have for parts

Re: What do you think of this truck...

I wouldn't pay more than 3k for it. It has a later model rear probably S10 with a 55-63 3 speed and an open driveline. The Wheelhouse and lower hinge pockets need replacing. running boards need a lot of work, floors need new pans, The dash is very molested and looks to be bondo'd up. Hood is bad on the leading edge and that usually means a new hood, Door bottoms are gone and covered up. Kick panels need replacing.

Looks like they blasted a primer job and sanded through to get a look that sells. I'd keep looking for one that has original paint on it as a outer layer so you can see what really needs to be done. On a good note its been converted to a 235. I amazed at what he thinks "Looks Good" When they don't lift the rug its because it ugly under it.

Re: What do you think of this truck...

Some great advice guys, much appreciated. I think I will take a pass on this one for I caught some of the same things that have been mentioned but wasn't sure what the going rate is for these trucks. Sounds like I need to find a left coast or desert truck, assuming I can find one that is all there. Any suggestions as to a good source for shopping? I do check CL and stay away from fleaBay but any other suggestions would be appreciated.

BTW, I just came across a site called haggleme.com, it is just some guy that calls on ads out there asking for permission to list a vehicle for free and marks up the price. If you Google the description, chances are you will find the original listing at a lessor price (I just did).

Re: What do you think of this truck...

Your better off finding one with a broke engine and transmission, and a super nice rust free body. Rust and sheet metal and paint is way more difficult than the running gear engine etc.

http://wichita.craigslist.org/cto/3837074901.html

You can find trucks around here pretty commonly.

Not sure what hoops you have to jump through regarding the title but....

I paid $350.00 for mine. Of course it needs a lot of work.
