rear end swap question
I have a 1964 C10 350 with 350 tranny and 3.73 posi. I want to switch to 3.07 gears. Will a 67-72 rear end fit? I want to retain the 6 lug axles cause I don't want 5 lugs in the back. Can I use my 6 lug axles in a 5 lug rear end? Are the 3.07 rear ends really hard to find....seems like all there are is 3.73 geared rears out there in junk yards for the 64-66 trucks I find....
Either that or I need a 700 R4... |

Re: rear end swap question
the 63-70 6 Lug 12 Bolts are all the same. 71/72 will have 5 lug.
I would build your rear or have it built. I bought all the parts, bought a core rearend and took my time cleaning it up and then I had it rebuilt professionally ( because I dont know how!) I took my rebuilt R/E home and swapped them out in the car port. I chose 3.73's with an Auburn Posi, I put all new bearings/seals, nuts bolts everything. I also lowered my truck at the same time. The whole process took about 5 months but it didnt break the bank since it was spread out. Good luck.

Re: rear end swap question
just to add to what Clyde65 said and to answer your Q about using your axles : you can't use your '64 axles in the 5-lug rears ('71-'72) because those later models housings are 1.5 inches wider (3/4" per axle).
(p.s.: I have a 3.07 AND a 700r )

Re: rear end swap question
Can I but a set of gears (3.07s) and swap them in? If I can from what years? Can it be a 1972 rear for the gear swap?
