My first pickup

Right now I'm 15 turning 16, I got this truck for my first and am getting it perfect for when I can drive, thought I'd share some pics with you guys. It's a 1987 Chevy v10 350 tbi, sm465, 3.42 gears with the factory 10 bolt, 6 inch suspension lift on 35s. Has some rust, trying to get that fixed, needs a new door and interior work and a little suspension work

Yeah, my suggestion would be that it is too far gone and you had better just bring it to me. That's a pretty nice start you picked up there. Kind of looking for one myself.

Re: My first pickup

Welcome to the board! Your truck is Bad Azz!

Since your a new driver just starting out let me give you some advice,

First, please Don't text and drive!
Second, never drink and drive
and third, Awalys wear a seat belt.

Thats it man.

Did I say Nice Truck?

Re: My first pickup

Thanks everybody, we've been searching Craigslist for a decent square that wasn't overpriced for a while, in my area they're either all rotted apart or they're completely restored and want 10k+. We drove 6 hours to Massachusetts to pick one up and it ended up being a piece of crap, then we found this one in Albany and picked this one up, I really wanted an sm465 and not a 700r4 and we finally found it

Re: My first pickup

That's a good looking truck. Wish I had found a truck like that when I was 16. Just drive the thing. And get a job you'll need it to buy gas and insurance, lol. Good luck and have fun.

Re: My first pickup

It looks like you did your research and your persistence paid off. You have what appears to be a very nice truck. I would start with a thorough inspection of everything mechanical. Begin with the simple things like checking all your fluids and changing those that your not confident about. Check all the lights including the alignment of the headlights. Inspect the brake system including the level and color of the fluid.

What I am suggesting is you get to know your truck personally and ensure that it is mechanically safe and all the maintenance is properly performed before you work on the cosmetics.

Relax and enjoy the excitement of your new purchase.

Thanks for the suggestions! I already changed the oil, spark plugs, coolant, -and hydraulic clutch fluid, and headlights, it still needs a front end allignment though! it was sitting in storage for 2 years before I got it.

Re: My first pickup

I got the purple stripes off the side today! (Look at the top pictures at the sides) the previous owner went overboard with pinstripes) I still want to get the bottom orange one off and the chrome strip!

Re: My first pickup

Very nice truck. Have a lot of fun with it but don't let your friends talk you into doing something that would mess it up. Peer pressure sucks!
