Re: Dually Fender Bolts

Bolts are 5/16" coarse thread , about 5/8" out of hole

I can't imagine trusting them glued on, but I guess you could , today's epoxies are heavy duty enough to hold it.

Re: Dually Fender Bolts

I was wondering if anybody had to replace any I have a few that have come completly out of the fiberglass and need to be replaced.

Any thoughts?

Would you epoxy a hanger bolt? Look to GM for a part number?

Epoxy in a piece of all thread?

Desert, that bolt looks brand new! How/where did you find a fender in that condition?

Has anyone figured out what kind of gasket/seam sealer is used to attach the fender to the bedside?

Re: Dually Fender Bolts

One of the fenders i used on my truck came from Iowa and it had a bunch of bolts rusted off and some that the glass was busted on. I was able to get the broken bolts out, they are a coarse thread like a lag bolt where they screw into the glass at. I went to the local hardware store and found some studs that were lag thread on one end and fine thread on the other. I then used some panel bond inside the fiberglass holes before i screwed the stud in.
Worked great.

I purchased them a few year back, They are NOS gm originals. There are some on Ebay now but, get ready for sticker shock!

My body shop guys said regular seam sealer after you bolt them on , sand, primer and paint.

I thought you were asking if they could be held on with adhesives in your first posting, that's why I replied with my comment about gluing them on.

Not a big deal, I have been wondering how to repair mine for awhile and was just throwing some concepts out there to see what everybody has done?

Now my question is, do you use the seam sealer before or after you paint the fender?

Both Duallies I have seen have paint on the seam sealer, They look like Fenders were mounted, Then seam sealer added , Smoothed out and painted.

But after saying that, I have seen a repainted truck where the fenders were painted separately, then mounted , It looked OK also.

The picture I posted earlier in this thread was of a brand new fender. It only came with the side studs, the row across the top edge I tapped out with a 5/16 tap and installed studs.
