Gauge wiring. Idiot lights vs. gauges

I tried searching for some info about this, but cam up with nothing.

I was wondering if the wiring harness is different for the instrument clusters that have lights vs. the instrument clusters that have gauges. My only experience is with the 67-72s and I know they are wired different. It's a long story, but I replaced an interior harness that was all hacked up with a used one, and the original truck had gauges, and the new harness came from a truck that did not.

I plugged everything in, and sort of ran out of time to keep checking things but the fuel gauge is going crazy and the blinkers are blinking opposite (the right indicator light blinks for left turn signal, etc).

Any ideas?

This should help.

I really wish the 73-87 FAQ was in the sub-forum list. It's not easy to find.

Re: Gauge wiring. Idiot lights vs. gauges

You may have to repin the connector. As long as your senders are correct for the gauges/lights that are in the truck, the wire connecting the two doesn't really make a difference. They should even be the same color.
