Brake Line Help!!! Brass nuts stripped while splitting lines
So I was splitting my lines so I could install my power brake dual M/C and the fitting for the back brake lines, at the tee at the front passenger side stripped out and there is no solid face for a wrench to break it loose.
If I use some vice grips on it, it will mangle it past usefulness. I was planning on just hooking up a coupler and running a new line from there to the M/C, but if I mangle the fitting, I don't know if I am going to be able to get it seated enough in the coupler so it doesn't leak. At this point, I see 3 options (remember, I am broke and need to get this truck sold ASAP); 1. Just run power brakes on the non-split stock brake lines (not a great choice). 2. Mangle the rear brake line and try to run a coupler to a new line up to the M/C. 3. Try to cut the rear line, buy a flare kit (don't really have the money for that) and attempt repair the line with a new fitting. There isn't much room to work on that line, so I'm afraid that if I did that, there wouldn't be enough line left to get a good flare. I appreciate any guidance!!!! Posted via Mobile Device

Soak the brass coupler in Krell, PB Blaster or other overnight. Next day heat it with a torch and try breaking parts loose again...carefully. Repeat if necessary.
At this point, vice-grips are better than a hack saw. |

Re: Brake Line Help!!! Brass nuts stripped while splitting lines
Blue Aura I wasn't sure if you buggered a line nut or the actual Passenger Side front T block.
I eliminated that fitting when splitting front from rear. But if you or anybody need a Brake T fitting I have the following for a 1964 (65s are different rear fitting.) DS front T, - 3 each 1/4" line fit this one PS Front T, 2 each 1/4" lines and one 3/16" line fits this one 1964 Rear T, 2 each 3/16" lines and one hose fit this one. I can drop any of these in the post for shipping only. They need to get reused rather than lost. |

Re: Brake Line Help!!! Brass nuts stripped while splitting lines
I was able to get it all together finally. Thanks for your write up on your experience, it helped a lot. I used a few unions and had to use two pre-made lengths of 3/16" and it worked out just right... had I bought the single 51" piece, it would have been too short. I could have bent the lines closer to the M/C if I need some extra length. At least I have an option, in case things are a little too close for comfort when I drop the engine in.
