Re: gas hood strut conversion

I wanted to do this to my 85 short bed with the Harwood fiberglass hood but they don't sell struts for it. Not sure if anyone else does though. Are you wanting to put them on a steel or glass hood?

one question, why? thosethings wear out quick and i would never trust them with a steel hood, i might with a glass hood, i have never seen a set of springs wear out

Re: gas hood strut conversion

My only concern would be could they support a steel hood. Might be a little too much weight for them. But then again who knows.

Re: gas hood strut conversion

I had a 1991 Camaro and replaced the gas struts on it with ones from Rockauto.

the new ones were so strong, you had to watch out when you opened the hood or it could knock your chin off your head...and that car had a long and heavy hood.

I would stick to springs...the gas shocks only last 4-5 years max.
