Question Has anyone ever done (or even tried) this???

I have been throwing around ideas a lot about doing an LS swap into my truck. But the more I drive it, the more I dislike how it drives. If I had a 1/2 ton with an automatic it would be different, but I don't. I have a 3/4 ton with HD suspension and 4 wheel drive driven along by the SM465. It's a pain to drive in town and it's even worse on the freeway. But I love the truck...

Disclaimer: I have not measured anything, so I'm not sure if this would even work.

Since the newer GMT700 platform rides a world better than the one in my truck, I thought about just swapping over the entire chassis and powertrain underneath my cab and box. That way, I'm still insuring and registering the truck on the super cheap, and I don't have to get it smogged. Has anyone ever done anything like this? If so, I would like to see some photos of it.

There was someone on the site who did that swap. Unfortunately I don't remember who, but it can be done. Things lined up pretty easily for him IIRC.

Look for posts by DirtyLarry (maybe a space between the two words). He put a 8.1 in his truck. Should give you an idea of what you're in for.

1981 Stepside: Thanks, I will try to locate something. It's just hard to find something so ambiguous.

Prong: That's not what I am talking about. I am trying to gather information on putting the body of my truck onto a 99-06 frame.

The 99-06 frames are much wider than the 73-87 so lots of body mounts to fabricate. As far as wheel base goes if you find a standard cab long bed you should be good to go. It shouldn't be to hard just very time consuming. I have put 88-98 bodys on 73-87 frames and it takes alot of work.

Not a 73-87, and its a custom crew cab to boot, but this build can give you some general ideas of what you could encounter

Yeah, I have noticed the difference in frame widths. I found a '99 on Craigslist with a regular cab, long box 4x4 and thought that would be perfect for what I want. I could even incorporate as much of the modern interior as possible.

That Frankenstein build is not really what I would be doing. After reading through about 6 pages of it, that's not really what I am going after.

This is more along the lines of what I am going after, just for the 73-87.
