Re: HELP 68 power stearing conversion
i added PS on a 67. it was a long time ago and do not recall all the details but i recall chinging the box, rag joint and pitman arm. My problem was the pulleys. Not much help but i know for sure that you do not have to change the drag link or the tie rods.

If I understand correctly you have eliminated the "ram assist" power steering (pic 1) and are installing an integral power steering system as found in 1969+ trucks 1: There is no "drag link" on these trucks, but the center link is completely different. I have a 67 (67-70) center link laying in the garage if you want it, just pay shipping. 2: There is only one version for inner and outer tie rods according to every auto parts store. 3: tie rod sleeves, same answer as #2 4: You will need a 67-70 Pitman arm as the ram assist version is a double female unit while the manual version has a male stud on the linkage end. (pic 2) 5: There is only one version of the Idler arm listed for 67-8 trucks. All the information I have found on swapping to integral PS swap from ram assist say you need: Pitman arm, PS gear box, center link, pump and brackets, hoses... If you have not already mounted the PS gear to the frame you may need to "dimple" the frame (recess the area between the 4 bolt mounting bumps) on 67 and some early 68 models, and trim the core support body mount.

Re: HELP 68 power stearing conversion
67c10rustbucket you are a life saver , I will pm you . I have rebuilt several front ends , but have never seen anything like this . The power assist in your first picture is what I had , it seems very flimsy to me , when disassembling , it kind of fell apart , seems very prone to failure , the box and pitman I got from the 79 c10 is far beefier , and appears to be bullet proof . The weak link in the 68 system is where the pitman attaches to the "valve" that hooks to the centerlink , very flimsy at that point and there was alot of play . Thanks again you answered all my questions , believe me I looked but could not find answers too

Re: HELP 68 power stearing conversion
to others who are doing this the bumper bracket has to be cut slightly also to allow for the larger steering box
