Header wrap
I am wondering if anyone has used the heat wrap on their headers. I am wanting to wrap my headers to protect my wires, and also to improve the looks of the headers. They are painted black, and fade fast.
I would love the Dynomax ceramic coated headers but they aint in the budget!! Would the tape be worth the money???

I never thought about that. I live in the rainy Pacific Northwest, but dont put that many miles on the truck.

French -
Was it header wrap or tape? I've heard the tape holds in the moisture and rots out the headers, but the wrap is loose enough to let the moisture escape. Again, heresay, not experience.

As nice as your new engine looks, I would keep painting them until you get new headers. I don't think that wrap looks good at all. Save that money for the real thing.

Thanks 70C10, I think that is good advice. Paint is cheap, and I am not crazy about the look of the wrap. Sure wish I had the cash for the Dynomax headers.
Is that your motor valley 67?? WOW!!!!!!

We put the same wrap on the block huggers on my son's 350 powered 280Z. It made a world of difference in heat in the engine bay. It does void any header warranty because it greatly reduces the lifespan of the headers due to rust and possibly cracking. He's saving up for ceramic coated ones now.

Hey Valley, what kind of alternator bracket is that? That is one of the nicest, if not the nicest motor I've seen.

You can get some ceramic coating for at home application from columbia coatings They sell it at a reasonable price and then it cures on the header while your running it, or in an oven. I am thinking of putting it on my headers because I refuse to pay that much for ceramic coateded headers. Just get your headers sandblasted and then you can do it in your garage.
They also have good prices on powder for you at home powder coaters. I have been very happy with their products, and they are very helpful and knowedgeable. |
