Where does this brown wire plug in?

Hi guys, I have all new battery, alternator, regulator, positive and negative terminals and wires to alternator bracket and starter respectively, and a new HEI. I'm not getting a charge from my alt and drain the battery after jumping and running any electrical such as wipers/ a/c. After tracing all the wiring all I can find is this brown wire and connector unplugged (to regulator?) and a green wire that has some kind of insulation around it cut off riding along with the old yellow and purple from the starter. Thanks, she's almost there!

I am curious about this wire also. I don't believe it has anything to do with the charging circuit. My truck has the external voltage regulator and I have no problem with charging. The green wire you mention may be for the temp sender?

Re: Where does this brown wire plug in?

One thing you should check with your charging system issue...the external voltage regulator has to have ignition power from your ignition switch (don't remember which color wire on the regulator) so if something is wrong with your ignition switch it might not be giving your external voltage regulator that ignition power that it needs. We had that problem happen on my dad's '69.

Thanks big red, I think that is the brown wire...just not this brown wire. Gonna redo all the grounds and if that doesn't do it check out the ignition switch
