Cab lights or not?
First off, I'm new to this board and would like to say Hello to everyone.
I'm looking at building a 70-72 SWB 1/2ton. I have two cabs, one with factory cab lights, one without. I am painting the truck factory copper W/white roof. The lights are orange so they match the copper paint. Question: * I have never seen a factory SWB wide body with cab lights: Did GM make them? * Why doesn't anyone build SWB's with them? * Do you think a SWB would look odd with cab lights? * Do you think it may effect the resale value? Thanks in advance for any & all input. |

Re: Cab lights or not?
The marker lamps were available on the SWB trucks too. They were standard only on the C30 with DRW option R05. Seems like most people are taking them off the lighter trucks. If it were mine I'd add them but resale might be a factor. A lot will depend on your local market, if they are popular then it shouldn't be an issue. Not mine but I figured you would like a little inspiration picture.

Re: Cab lights or not?
Welcome to the site from Maryland! I personally like cab lights. Most guys who are into these trucks these days, especially C/10 SWBs are car converts who don't appreciate the real truck stuff. I think it would limit resale for sure. I said I like them, but wouldn't want them on a SWB 2wd,either. The 3/4ts,1ts,and 4wds look awesome with them, along with rel mirrors and step bumpers. For me,as a true truck guy,a SWB 2wd is more of a car and I like 'em clean and lean.

Re: Cab lights or not?
Welcome to the board from southern Alberta. Love the classic bronze paint and love the cab lights too. Like SpecialK I also like anything that looks like a work truck.

Here is a pic of a copper SWB with cab lights. It belongs to member
"casey_g". I like the looks of them on a big manly 4x4 like Tim posted, that truck is awesome ![]()

Re: Cab lights or not?
Hi,
I agree with what most of you said, that it does seeem to go with larger trucks/4X4's. Thanks for confurming that SWB's did come that way. Here is a pic that I was modeling my truck after. Thanks guys Anyone else that has a SWB with lights please feel free to post. There great to see. Pic from Franklin Mint Last edited by Canadianguy; 06-21-2013 at 12:00 AM. Reason: Pic edit |

Re: Cab lights or not?
I really like cab lights on the big trucks like others said. But personally I wouldn't put them on a 1/2ton 2wd truck. Lwb, or Swb, they just look out of place.

Re: Cab lights or not?
Welcome from Alabama! I like the cab lights too but my truck didn't come with them so i didn't add them. I like the way cab lights look at night too. Doesn't help you but it's all I got...

Re: Cab lights or not?
4x4 = Yes
2x4 = No Just doesn't seem to go on the 2 wheel drive short bed trucks. Just something about the look says big truck. |

Re: Cab lights or not?
Like everybody else, I think cab lights should only be on the bigger trucks. That's just my opinion though! Around here, that would hurt resell to have them on a small truck.

Re: Cab lights or not?
I like them. I want my truck to look truckish. I have put them on several trucks I have had. It does hurt the resale value though.

Re: Cab lights or not?
Hi Wrenchbender, the lights look good on white. From what I've been seeing, trucks standard height & higher look good but it does not seem to suit lower/lowered trucks.

Agreement with others. Leave the cab lights to the bigger trucks.

Re: Cab lights or not?
Mine really is big :P , just in itty-bitty packaging.
This may be construed as highjacking a perfectly good thread but does anyone have any extra fireman's hats?

Re: Cab lights or not?
Thanks & Hello 70CST, GRX & Quixote.
Quixote I'm glad you ask, the lights you want are sold at NAPAOnline.com and at truck-lite.com , Part #1313A for the complete, light, base, etc. (about $15.00) or they sell just the cap alone, I've heard that most stores that carry Semi accessories have them in stock. Good Luck! |

Re: Cab lights or not?
Nice to see more Albertans on here. I'm from Calgary, but believe it or not I was born in Crossfield more years ago than I want to admit to. My Grandparents homesteaded west of there. Anyway about the lights,I'm redoing a 87 crewcab and I'm taking them off. Welcome to the forum.Gord

Re: Cab lights or not?
This may well be the place where everybody gets along. I quite enjoy it. I will definitely look on those sites. I know most places are quite proud of them and I only got 10 years out of my last ones, I guess that is long enough...
I am also happy to see more Canadians on here, I actually miss my Canadian roadtrips. I just haven't ventured up there for awhile. I do know that old Rocinante is actually Canadian at heart. Custom spec'ed and built at the Ottawa plant. I still have all the original paperwork, even the order sheet.

Re: Cab lights or not?
Part of the reason I had originally bought mine was that they came stock. I am not a big fan of drilling through my roof for fear of going through the ceiling and as I had just gotten through re-wiring my roof lights, I can attest to the fact that it is rather a chore.
