Fuel line problem plz help
This past weekend my father in law replaced my gas tank for me. It starts fine and runs fine but as soon as you give it some throttle it seams to really hesitate and bog down. The fuel line he replaced is clear and it really looks like air bubbles are going back into the tank. I assume that they should be going the other way or none at all. Could he have mixed up the other 2 lines which I assume are for venting?

I know of no fuel line that is Clear. You can not use clear plastic hose as fuel line. (or anything else than is not rated for use with gasoline) This is very dangerous. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Fuel line problem plz help
As far as your question,
When you refer to the other two lines I assume you have 3 total? What year and model is your truck? Fuel injected or carb? Usually you would have a 3/8" FUEL lline that goes to the fuel pump(from tank) and a 1/4" RETURN line that also goes to the pump. (from tank) and a 5/16" VAPOR line that goes to the emissons canister located on the radiator core support. This is assuming your truck is a 81-86 non fuel injected. If you have dual tanks then they go through that also. All 3 lines are differant size so they should not get mixed up. But again, you need the proper fuel line/hose to start with. Oh yea, Welcome to the board! Post some pics of your truck when you get things straightened out. Posted via Mobile Device

Re: Fuel line problem plz help
The truck is a 86 carbureted single tank and yes there are 3 lines. If you were to mix up the return and the vapor lines would that cause my issue? If not any other suggestions. The truck ran perfect before the new tank.

Re: Fuel line problem plz help
Yeah, the large line should be the supply, medium size return, and the small line the vapor/vent...
I would pull the tank down, and check the lines.. follow it to the pump. |

Re: Fuel line problem plz help
All the lines were correct. Removed the return line and started it up, it spit some fuel out. Which seemed to get the air it of the system. Still having the problem though. Going to change the fuel filter today and see if that fixes it.

Re: Fuel line problem plz help
All the line were correct so I changed the fuel filter and it fixed the problem. I put a new filter in 5000k ago so I didn't think that would have been it. Glad it was though, thanks to everyone who replied.

Re: Fuel line problem plz help
Do you still have clear tubing as your fuel line? Just curious if you noted all the safety advice given to you above.

Re: Fuel line problem plz help
doubt it's a Canadian thing,I've seen it used ,but not for pressured fuel, just vapour and overflow
