How much will it cost me to buy a new intake? I took it to a guy we know to flush the radiator and he told the the thremostat bolts were stripped.

Then he tried to tell me I did it because I didnt' know what I was doing when I changed the thermostat. He tried to rip me off 'cause I'm only 17 but I didn't fall for it. He got them in but it is held by very little. Thanks.

What year vortec? You should be able to helicoil the holes. If you don't want to do the helicoils, I have a '96-'97 vortec intake that I would let go pretty cheap. Let me know.

It's a 97. I think the guy did that. He said if I had to change the thermostat again I would need a new intake. I don't think my truck will go back to him. If something breaks I will just have to learn to fix it myself. The reason I didn't flush the radiator was lack of time.

I'm not much of a salesman as I really doubt that you will need to replace the intake. From your description, it sounds like he may have used slightly longer bolts to fix it for now. If helicoils are properly installed, they are a permanent and good quality fix and you won't have any need to replace the manifold. Once again, if you decide to replace the manifold, I'll have this one for a while.

isnt that intake a composite intake? i dont think helicoils would work if that is the case.

The part that encloses the CPI is plastic, but the part where the thermostat is located is aluminum-aluminum is the most common material that is repaired with helicoils.
