Anybody mount tank in bed?
For various reasons I want to move my gas tank out of my cab and put it in my bed. Just wondering if anyone has done this before and if so do you have pics of how you mounted the stock gas tank?
I've also thought about getting a blazer tank and mount it in the bed like a fuel cell. I would have to mount the blazer tank in the bed instead of under the bed because my truck is bagged. The tank looks like it would hang too low and drag. If anyone has any suggestions or pictures of tanks that'll be great. |

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
I decided to go with this tank...
http://www.boydwelding.com/shop/inde...-bed-fill.html It sits higher than the blazer tank and I want have to cut the cross support on the bed. |

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
No,I leave my tanks in the cab. It's safer there than in a bed. And,I kinda drive trucks "because" they have a bed, which makes them more useful than cars. If I didn't want/need a bed I'd be into cars.

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
I use to run a 32 gal Jaz fuel cell in the bed while I use to rock crawl my 72 K10. Worked like a charm, I will look for some pic's.

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
if ya gotta have one, here's an option: http://reviews.northerntool.com/0394...ws/reviews.htm
Taint cheap. But it's big. But I'm kinda with SpecialK on this one, a bed's a bed. The company in the link does make dual purpose tank/tool chest combos. But, just me personally, if I wanted extras, I'd search for some aux tanks and refurbish. If I wanted the tank out of the cab - I'd still get the aux's and add a blazer or camaro tank in place of the spare to still end up with 3 total tanks, none in the bed. (that's one approach I'm surprised I haven't seen yet - 3 tanks, none in the bed or the cab...) JointTech - I'm NOT gonna ride with you... Good thing CA doesn't have a safety inspection. |

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
Here you go. This is just made out of sheet metal and welded together. The guy at the steel shop had one of the big benders and put the bends in it for us. Then we got some of that rust prohibitive gas tank sealer. Also you can buy the weld in fillers with caps at alot of places. Then painted and bolted it down t the bed. Easy and very cheap to make if you have some welding skills.

I thought a keg standing upright would look cool. It would look like you are always ready to party. Maybe even have it airbrushed or painted to match your truck.

But my buddy has a diamond plate truckbox from his wrecked truck hes giving me so im going to put something in that. I dont mind the space loss as long as I can get it up off the bed floor enough to slide a few 4x8s under and close the tailgate. been a long time since I could do that. |

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
I was looking for a similar solution, something clean that gets the tank out of the cab, not so much because I think it's especially dangerous, but because 17 gallons doesn't get me very far at 12 mpg. The under bed tanks aren't much bigger, are they? Maybe 20 gallons?
So I was looking at Transfer Flow, Inc.'s tool box and fuel tank combo, has anyone used anything similar, or is everyone making their own? They're asking about $1500 for a 30 gallon at our local Ranch and Home, it shouldn't be hard to make one a lot cheaper, but what are the legal implications? http://www.transferflow.com/fuel-tan...ox-tank-combos

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
The factory tank in a pickup is 21 gallons. At least all I've owned have been. And,that's a lot of trucks

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
I've put a tad over 20 gallons in mine quite a few times.

Re: Anybody mount tank in bed?
I saw a simmilar setup to this at a local show.. except it was finnished out very nice. Had bodywork all around it and a flush mount filler on top. So clean the guy had to point it out to me. Looked like you only lost about 6" of bed depth. Id say its a good option for a custom truck.
I assume weight distribution isn't one of the reasons for moving your gas tank. Posted via Mobile Device
