Barn door windows

Ok guys, another research question. I'm currently banging out some dents on my barn doors and while looking at the empty holes for the windows, it got me thinking. Did all the barn door glass mount solid? or were there any that opened?

I think it would be cool if they could open. I'd thought about putting a slider style in the top door of my Sub, but not sure if it would fit.

I've been thinking that I would like a pop open style window on those doors. Something like this...




Granted that is a sunroof but the principle is the same. I'm just curious that if anyone else has come up with one. Or maybe this is my million dollar idea. LOL

Would they suck exhaust fumes into the interior? The side windows are in a draft that removes the air from the interior, but I think the rear opening glass would bring exhaust fumes inside.

Yeah, it would suck everything in but I was thinking of using it when parked not driving. I'm making mine to take camping, fishing and other endeavors. So I think it would be nice to be able to open the windows to get a breeze going through without having to prop the doors open. Besides AC is for when you are driving.

The mid-70's chevy/gmc vans had windos in the rear doors that opened like you are wanting- maybe a slavage yard could yield some parts. Most of the hinges,latches bolted to the glass, so maybe not too hard to retrieve.

Like seeing other think outside the box, too.
I am trying to finalize making the 'Burb side windows power sliders using linear actuators. Problem is, by design, they do not slide smothly.

Their is so much room back their I was thinking of making mine power and controled with the f.o.b. like you said mostly for when parked or for loading the groceries when I'm gettin em...Grocery getter galor.LOL

Astrovans had the windows on hinges that would let the bottom open a couple of inches.

I actually found a 91' crew cab c1500 at the local pick and pull. it had intact pop out rear/side window frames that I snagged. I cut them down to fit the opening and put in a piece of plywood for mock up. It fit great and opened just like I planned.

I then placed them on the workbench while I was working on the doors, when UPS made a delivery. Big/heavy box. I carried it back to the shop and without thinking set it right on top of my frames totally breaking them apart. I hadnt completely welded it, only tacked it. broke it at the tacks and bent two of the longer rails. I'm not even sure I'm going to be able to salvage it. But at least I now know what I want and need to make new ones. Lesson is, when UPS delivers, make sure you take your brain with you.
